St. John's Lutheran School follows the Common Core Standards

We currently use the State ELA and Math exams

St. John's incorporates project based learning. Students will create themed projects that are multifaceted. They combine all subject areas and allow the children to analyze and critically think about the topic being studied.

Technology

St. John's is equipped with iPads, Smart Boards and Mac Books. They are incorporated into all aspects of learning for every grade. 

                                       Enrichment

Enrichment is taught weekly by the teachers. Some examples are: Cooking, Art, Boot Camp, Book Club and more. They change quarterly, giving students a variety of choices.

Grades K-4

Reading: Superkids reading program is used in grades K-2.


Go Math is used with a wonderful online component that allows for classroom enhancement and parental involvement. All alligned with Common Core Standards.


Social Studies/Science: Students use a variety of resources. They receive a Science and Social Studies Weekly magazine, also aligned with the Common Core. Teachers incorparate additional resources for these subjects. Students will conduct science labs using the scientific method.


Religion: Religion is taught Monday -Thursday


Music: Students have music once per week. Grades 2-6 are part of the chorus. They participate in both the Christmas and Spring concerts. K-1 parcipate in a Christmas pagent. They learn to play bell instruments.


Gym: Physical Education is given twice per week. Weather permitting, students have outside recess daily.


Computers: Mac Books and ipads are formally taught once a week. These devices are incorporated into daily classroom activities.


Grades 5-8

Reading/ELA: Students use the Progress ELA program.  This program is aligned with the Common Core Standards.  Students study a variety of literary classics and genres.

Math:  Students use Go Math. This program is aligned with Common Core Standards. 

Science: Students use Common Core aligned books from Glencoe, along with a variety of resources. Students will have weekly hand on labs and also utilize virtual labs.

Social Studies: Students use Common Core aligned books from Prentice Hall, along with a variety of primary and secondary resources.

Music: All students receive music once per week. They participate in both the Christmas and Spring concerts. St. John's has a wonderful Hand-Chime Choir that consists of 7th & 8th graders who participate in both concerts and weekly chapel.

Gym: Physical Education is given twice per week. Weather permitting, students have outside recess daily.

Computers: Computers is taught formally once per week, however it is incorporated in all subject areas throughout the school day.

Religion: Religion is taught Monday-Thursday
